What is a Business Central Release Wave?

Each year, Microsoft releases two major updates for their Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Product. These are typically released in April and October.

Why are they called Release Waves? Well, similar to waves in an ocean. Big waves are typically separated by smaller waves in between. In Business Central, these small waves are delayed feature releases and Cumulative Updates.

Occasionally, a Release Wave may contain a change that requires users to take proactive action. We will review the change and notify our impacted clients.

What is the Most Recent Business Central Release Wave?

In March 2024, Microsoft released Business Central 2024 Release Wave 1.  We cover the important changes your business needs to know and highlight the new features most relevant to the end users.

What is the Difference Between Business Central Releases Waves and Cumulative Updates?

Most months, Microsoft will release a batch of cumulative updates for Business Central. These updates are for hotfixes and regulatory feature updates and don’t tend to add any major functionality to the system. Releases Waves, on the other hand, will have those exciting new features

Innovia has a page dedicated to tracking the latest cumulative updates.

We have assembled a team of Business Central experts to thoroughly examine the Microsoft Release notes and summarize them in a convenient format so you don’t have to! With each Business Central Wave Release, our team will appear on an episode of our podcast, the Innovia Conversation to review their first thoughts of the new release and the 1-2 features each team member is most excited for.
