NAV 2018 Top 5 for Accounting

Since the release of NAV 2018 last month we have been having a blast trying out all the new features. Because there are so many different types of NAV users, I made three different lists of my favorite features for Sales, Accounting, and IT. There are some overlaps because some of the new or improved features will be popular with more than one group.

Top 5 list of new/improved features in NAV 2018 for Accounting users

1. Preconfigured Excel reports – NAV 2018 still gives you the ability to export data from a multitude of locations directly to Excel with the click of a button but now it also includes the ability to generate some of your most popular reports into Excel. Reports that you use every day like balance sheet, income statement, and trial balance can be exported and manipulated in Excel via a single mouse click.

2. Edit Journal Pages in Excel – Many of the journal pages in NAV 2018 now support the Excel add-in which means you can create, edit and publish journals to NAV from Excel. No more cumbersome rekeying of all that data while still honoring NAV logic.

3. Improved OCR Sync Capabilities – Kofax ICS can now sync vendor name data between NAV and Kofax. Whenever a new invoice is craeted in Kofax ICS, the proper vendor name can be assigned, ensuring naming consistency between the systems. Kofax can now use the vendor names to more accurately detect invoices from a vendor the first time.

4. Employee Ledger Entries – NAV 2018 now allows you to more efficiently deal with financial transactions for employees. Within a journal you can post and apply/unapply payments to employees allowing you to make payments to employees in the Payments Journal and even use the Payment Suggestion functionality to further improve efficiency laying the groundwork for built in expense handling in NAV.

5. All this other great stuff – NAV 2018 also adds all of these other small improvements like the ability to distribute item charges by volume and weight, updating master customer data from sales and purchase documents, and a “Show Details” option while printing G/L Register report.

If you are interested in seeing all the new changes in NAV 2018, reach out to your Innovia account manager and ask for the “What’s new in 2018” document and maybe even request a NAV 2018 demo environment license so you can evaluate it yourself. It’s the best NAV ever!
