How NAVUG Enriched My Dynamics NAV Knowledge

The original blog post can be found here.

I have worked with Dynamics NAV (Navision) for 18 years. In that time, there have been a great many changes, both to the product and in the NAV community. One of the biggest struggles for most of our customers was how to find resources to help them get more from their system…without having to pay Innovia for consulting time!

In 2006, we helped a group of Innovia customers form the Madison Area User Group (MANUG). This group was very interactive and through the efforts of many volunteers, provided great value to the nearly two dozen companies that participated.

In 2009, I heard about a new(ish) group that was meeting in Chicago. Since it was close to home, I decided to register and see what this group had to offer. It was NAVUG’s second conference and the first for me. I was totally blown away. Here was a group of people who were getting together from all over the country to help each other learn more about their Dynamics NAV. The sessions were informative and full of great tips that could be applied as soon as an attendee returned to work. I realized that if each region could work together to form a larger NAV community, we could really make a positive impact for a LOT of Dynamics NAV users. From that point, I became an NAVUG evangelist both internally at Innovia and to our customers (and many would say to anyone who would listen).

I do not believe there is a single place where for a few hundred dollars a company who runs Dynamics NAV can get more resources. NAVUG Open Forum, Academy classes, Webinars, Special Interest Groups, Summit, Focus or the many other options available through NAVUG combine to provide an exceptional value to NAVUG members. I strongly recommend NAVUG to each of our clients and use it as a major differentiator when speaking to prospective NAV users.

Personally, I have found my NAVUG experience completely enriching. I have learned so much during this time, and I have been fortunate enough to spend it with so many NAVUG members over the years. The variety of different companies and the challenges each face, provide an opportunity to think creatively, discuss openly, and mutually help find a patch toward improved performance. As an added bonus, I have also made some great friends.

I am grateful for each and every member that I have met over the years and look forward to many more opportunities to share our experience with each other. See you at Summit!
