If read my last blog post on Jet Essentials, you know I’m a big fan of the product. Essentials offers a real-time reporting solution for people who know Excel and want a quick way to query information from their Microsoft Dynamics NAV software. As these databases grow, however, and as queries become more complex across years of information or multiple databases, you may find that Jet Enterprise, from Jet Reports, is a more suitable solution than Essentials.
Jet Enterprise is an all-in-one Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting solution. BI, a term used a lot these days, can be simply explained as an assembly of methods for analyzing and accessing data that helps to gain insight and improve business decision making. Where Jet Essentials offers the ability to read data real-time from NAV, Jet Enterprise offers data analyzing through data warehouses. Data warehousing takes information requested from the NAV SQL database and copies it to a separate database so the source NAV data is freed up as quickly as possible to eliminate potential performance issues.
Once the information is in the data warehouse, the user can then use a pre-defined cube to query that information. In simple terms, a cube is a data structure that allows for fast reporting on large amounts of data. Jet provides 6 pre-defined cubes specifically for Microsoft Dynamics NAV – Finance, Purchases, Inventory, Sales, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable.
And, you can do all of this right from inside of Excel!
So, if you’re looking for a tool that is intuitive yet provides the horsepower and technology required to sift through gigabytes of data, Jet Enterprise may be the solution for you. And, since Jet Reports provides the ability to test drive all of their products with your own data, why not give it a try?
